How does your role support AT&T’s efforts to improve social performance and impact?

My role includes collaboration with and support of the Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), which are focused on having a social impact on the communities in which our employees live and work. Our ERGs do an incredible job at making a difference, and in my role, I have the opportunity to support the ERG leadership teams by training them and providing their organization’s with corporate resources.

Our ERGs are changing lives; as an example, a few of the ERGs are heavily involved with programs at local high schools where they encourage students to stay in school and get their degree. They have taught students about careers at AT&T, careers in STEM, and even how to build a mobile app!

What is your typical day like on the job?

My role is to support AT&T’s diversity and inclusion initiatives and strategies, so every day is completely different. Each day is exciting because all of our diversity and inclusion initiatives are driving innovations and employee engagement. Some days include supporting our 12 Employee Resource Groups through the ERG Leadership Academies, the ERG Conference, or through ERG Funding. In addition, my role is involved with supporting the formation and implementation of new Employee Networks both domestically and internationally; today we have 3 domestic employee network and 4 outside of the US. Our international Employee Networks support women’s initiatives, LGBT initiatives, parents at work and business professionals.

Our company has the opportunity to make a positive impact through our activities that will affect the communities where our employees live and where we serve our customers.

Other days, I am focused on creating and implementing training and development to help further educate our employee base on the value and business case for diversity and inclusion. Throughout the year, I am involved with managing our strategic partnerships with external organizations to learn new best practices and further promote our brand through external surveys and benchmarking. We’re very proud of our diverse and inclusive culture and want to be recognized both internally and externally for our best in class organization.

Why do you think corporate social responsibility is important to business?

Our company has the opportunity to make a positive impact through our activities that will affect the communities where our employees live and where we serve our customers. Employees and customers want to be engaged with companies that value their social responsibility. It is important to the business and it is just the right thing to do.

What is the one piece of technology you can’t do without?

The Internet. While researching on the internet can sometimes be a bit cumbersome at times, the wealth of information available to us at our fingertips is so powerful. It enables us to be resourceful and incredibly well informed.
