When I first learned about AT&T’s Do One Thing (DOT) initiative – which invites employees to take a simple, measurable action to benefit the world around them – I didn’t realize that my passion for wellness and meditation would encourage my colleagues to make similar healthy changes in their lives.

Through DOT, I was able to not only improve my own work efficiency and health, but easily invite others to join me in taking small steps to improve their well-being.

I started the Living Well Project DOT team as my way to share hands-on tools and information with employees to improve their physical and mental well-being. And this DOT is really simple. During lunch breaks, so it doesn’t interfere with our work schedule, I lead my colleagues through a guided mediation or guided visualization. After just a half hour session, we are calm, relaxed and ready to tackle the rest of the day.

I was inspired to start the Living Well Project from my own experience overcoming and healing from a physical condition with mindful mediation. The techniques I share with my colleagues not only improved my immunity but impacted other aspects of my life for the better. I am happier and emotionally stronger. I’m able to give more at my job. And, I’m able to be better in my professional and personal relationships.

Through DOT, I was able to not only improve my own work efficiency and health, but easily invite others to join me in taking small steps to improve their well-being. Now I have two DOTs – one for my office and another for AT&T at large. We are nearing 200 members, and it’s ever-growing! Making a difference always starts with small steps that result in a big impact.

If meditating is not your thing, there are many steps you can take to improve yourself, or the world around you. You can join an exercise group or gardening club. Make a commitment to recycle all your beverage containers or take shorter showers. It may seem small to you, but it’s adding up to a big change. Take it from me – it really does start with you.

What is DOT? Through AT&T’s Do One Thing (DOT) movement, employees are taking measurable, regular actions that improve themselves, their community and/or the company. DOTs can be anything from committing to turn off the water while brushing your teeth, volunteering at a local animal shelter or engaging your entire office business unit to use less paper. DOT embraces and includes employees at all levels around the world! Small actions for good can add up to a big, positive change when people work together. Our employees are demonstrating this every day through Do One Thing (DOT).
