At AT&T, we use the term “connected world” a lot in our daily work as we communicate internally, as well as externally to our customers. Last week, in a meeting with stakeholders, I opened up the discussion by asking, “What does term ‘connected world’ mean to you?”

Consumers can create cleaner, smarter and more efficient lives for themselves and for their communities within this world – they can Connect to Good.

The answers really demonstrated the broad spectrum of what “connected world” can mean. One person stated that it meant his home was equipped with a NEST thermostat that allows him ease, comfort and energy savings. Another person mentioned that it meant bringing diverse cultures together. Another said it meant living in a smart city, where all things – from lampposts to buildings to cars – are connected.

The beauty of this exercise was that the answers were all correct, and it sparked a great discussion about how AT&T is committed to using the power of our network to build a better tomorrow. Whether it is a person using AT&T’s Digital Life system to remotely monitor their home’s thermostat; a city using traffic signal sensors to better organize traffic flow; a farmer using soil sensors to determine the best day to water, plant, fertilize and harvest; or consumers using their devices to talk to each around the globe, AT&T’s technology is connecting the world around us.

No matter what the term means to the individual, the “connected world” truly impacts a consumer. Consumers can create cleaner, smarter and more efficient lives for themselves and for their communities within this world – they can Connect to Good.

These are exciting times at AT&T and it’s just the beginning. Technology is moving at lightning speed and is having a profound impact on improving quality of life, as well as transforming the way we care for our planet. This new world has limitless possibilities for innovation that can enrich all of humanity.
