Engaging Our Supply Chain
When it comes to sustainability, we view our supply chain as an opportunity to extend AT&T’s own aspirations and activities and to magnify our positive impact through both influence and collaboration. We expect our suppliers to share our commitment to citizenship and sustainability.
Principles of Conduct for Suppliers
Our Principles of Conduct for Suppliers outlines expectations and covers topics including sustainable business practices, diversity, ethics and labor rights.
Strategic Supplier Sustainability Scorecard
AT&T measures the performance of its strategic suppliers on their adherence to sustainable business practices. Areas of focus include the environment, health, safety, energy efficiency, greenhouse gas emissions, hazardous substances, labor and water. As part of that program, suppliers accounting for 80 percent of our annual spend recieve the AT&T Supplier Sustainability Survey annually.
Our sustainability scorecard is based on key data from the annual supplier surveys that have been conducted since 2009. It encompasses four areas that help quantify suppliers’ sustainability efforts: scope of company policies, rigor of goals, transparency of reporting and supply chain governance.
AT&T continues to address packaging opportunities in its supply chain. In 2013, we engaged suppliers even further for innovative solutions to both reduce packaging materials and environmental impact. We made several improvements to packaging of our DSL products by reducing paperboard weight by 60 percent, reducing plastic weight by 40 percent and reducing 1.3 million pounds of packaging.
The AT&T Supplier Sustainability Awards honor suppliers that make outstanding contributions to our sustainability efforts. In 2014, we honored six suppliers that helped us advance our sustainability commitment in the areas of alternative energy, energy efficiency, process improvement, the environment and packaging.
