PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS®, a part of the Institute for Economic Empowerment of Women (IEEW), is built on the understanding that economically stable societies have a much greater capacity for peace. Now in its ninth year, the program provides opportunities for women entrepreneurs from Rwanda and Afghanistan to gain valuable skills and insight that they can use to strengthen and grow their own businesses. A key component of the program is also to train others in their communities to do the same.

PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS® provides opportunities for women to gain economic empowerment through an eight-week course that focuses on creating business plans, as well as teaching them about accounting, marketing and overall operations. Each year, the women who demonstrate necessary leadership skills are given the opportunity to visit the United States for intensive training and mentoring in business for two weeks. The women selected to come to Dallas in 2015 have businesses that range from fashion, to large-scale farming to news and media production.

Learn how to become a mentor

AT&T has been a major sponsor of PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS®  since its inception, as it embodies many issues that are important to the company, most notably gender equality and the empowerment of women in business. PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS® gives us the opportunity to promote, increase, and improve the overall participation of women in the global workforce. It also gives our own female employees a once in a lifetime opportunity to connect with, mentor and learn from their counterparts in developing countries. The Women of AT&T employee resource group and several female executives serve as volunteers, and each year come away inspired by the program and empowered to grow in their own career pursuits.
