Every Voice Matters

Being the best-of-the-best is something we all strive to be. Best parent, best spouse, best sibling, best co-worker. In my own life, I am continuously working hard to be the best at what I do and to improve until I get it just right.

At AT&T, we strive to be the best workplace OR company OR employer. We get there by working to make sure our business is as diverse as the communities we serve. That is why it was such an honor this week when the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC), in collaboration with its partners in the National Business Inclusion Consortium (NBIC), named AT&T as one of the top 30 of the inaugural Best-of-the-Best. Best-of the-Best is a list of corporations in America committed to diversity and inclusion across all communities.

AT&T’s culture of inclusiveness has been especially important for me. As an openly gay man, I see the company’s commitment to inclusion every day. I celebrated with my colleagues when I married my husband, Rob, and I receive support from LEAGUE at AT&T, the company’s employee resource group for LGBT and ally employees. I can say, based on first-hand experience, that AT&T’s record on diversity and inclusion is a truly valued aspect of who we are as a company, woven intricately into our corporate culture.

Every voice matters at AT&T. By acknowledging our differences, whether we’re talking race, gender, sexual orientation and culture – or perspectives, physical and mental abilities, education and experience – we’re able come up with innovate ideas on how to keep more people connected. We’re proud of what makes us unique, and we celebrate that every day.

Scott Sapperstein is Executive Director Public Affairs for AT&T where he manages AT&T’s national third party relationships for the company’s Citizenship and Sustainability priorities and programs. Scott’s focus includes issues concerning: Education, Environment, Consumers, Military, Online Privacy and Safety, and National LGBT issues. Scott is also the company lead for the AT&T Consumer Advisory Panel.
