When it comes to consumer attitudes and perceptions about mobile marketing, there’s good news and bad news.

The good news, according to a 2014 study by Hipcricket, is that mobile marketing is actually reaching consumers. Two-thirds of consumers have received a text message or mobile alert from a business in the last six months. Meanwhile, only 47% have “liked” a brand on Facebook and only 12% have followed a brand on Twitter.

Now, the bad news. Most mobile marketing is missing the mark by sending messages that consumers don’t find relevant, useful, or personal enough.

Here are some tactics to help your mobile marketing campaign succeed:

  • Timing is key.
  • Tap into past history.
  • Start slow and build on success.
  • Protect privacy.
