With Thanksgiving in the books, we’re now in the thick of holiday season which means memories are being made. As we’ve started to see annually, data traffic on our mobile network grows this time of year at many venues – especially malls, airports and football stadiums. Over the last week, we’ve seen some interesting network usage trends from these venues as people are sharing their experiences with their family and friends via our mobile network.

At 58 malls where we are on an in-venue Distributed Antenna System (DAS) network and tracked data, we saw our customers use approximately 3.1TB of mobile data used nationwide from Thursday, Nov. 27 to Sunday, Nov. 30. 3.2TB is equivalent to more than 9 million social media posts with photos. The mall with the most data usage on Black Friday was in King of Prussia, PA, where our customers used more than 178GB of mobile data on our venue-specific DAS.

At airports traffic soared as well. At the 27 airports where we are on an in-venue Distributed Antenna System (DAS) network and tracked data, we saw our customers use approximately 6.8TB of mobile data used nationwide from Monday, Nov. 24 to Sunday, Nov. 30. 6.8TB is equivalent to 19.6 million social media posts with photos. The Chicago north-side airport had the most data usage during this time frame where our customers used more than 1,075GB of mobile data on our venue-specific DAS. 1,075GB is equivalent to 3M social media posts with photos.

At football stadiums the data scoreboard continues to light up across our network. The stadiums in Dallas and San Francisco, two of the three pro football venues that hosted Thanksgiving Day games, had the 1st and 2nd most data usage of any venues from this past week of action. In Dallas, our customers used more than 1,016GB of mobile data on our venue-specific DAS. 1,016GB is equivalent to 2.9M social media posts with photos. In San Francisco, our customers used more than 688GB of mobile data on our venue-specific DAS. 688GB is equivalent to 1.9M social media posts with photos. It was also the highest data total on our mobile network for either venue this season.

The data shows it. The holidays have gone mobile.
