It takes a lot to stump a scientist.

Mike Wish had been at AT&T for 15 years when a supervisor asked him a question he couldn't answer. "What would you like to do with the rest of your career?"

After giving it some thought, Mike wanted to go back to school for computer science. He had no background in coding or computers, but he saw future was dotted with 1s and 0s. So he worked hard as a part-time student in his 40s, and earned a master's degree from Columbia.

That was 35 years ago.

Mike Wish just celebrated his 50th service anniversary with AT&T.

Watch out for a few of these things about Mike's personal story in the video.

  • The first selfies may have happened on Mike's watch – in the 1960s.
  • What happens if millions of points of data fall in the forest and no one is there to hear them?
  • How can a smartphone change the career of a senior citizen?

Spend a minute with Mike Wish, who leads Inventive Science, in the video as he takes you through a half century with AT&T.
