Automakers provide more control and insight to drivers with Autonet Mobile’s suite of services and features powered by AT&T’s 4G LTE Network

ATLANTA, April 2, 2015 – AT&T and Autonet Mobile will make connected cars smarter and give car owners an added level of control. AT&T 4G LTE wireless connectivity will power Autonet integrated connected car services they provide to car makers, the companies said today.

Drivers use Autonet Mobile’s integrated telematics solution to control their connected cars remotely through an app on their smartphone. They can lock and unlock a vehicle remotely, manage teenage driving through parental controls, check car health reports to keep it in top shape, use in-car Wi-Fi and more. The benefits that Autonet Mobile offers to car makers are over-the-air updates and vehicle diagnostics. Autonet Mobile currently provides connected car services to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, General Motors, Maserati, Subaru and other major auto brands.

“We can bring our powerful 4G LTE network to more drivers and a wide variety of vehicles. We’re excited to deliver a superior connected car experience for cars using Autonet Mobile telematics,” said Chris Penrose, senior vice president, Internet of Things, AT&T Mobility. “This collaboration will bring remote access, over-the-air software updates and in-car Wi-Fi to more car owners.”

“The pairing of AT&T and Autonet will drive new innovation based on the Autonet TRU Technology/App platform specifically designed for cars,” said Sterling Pratz, co-founder, Autonet Mobile. “Offerings such as automotive over-the-air updates will work well with the higher quality network that AT&T’s 4G LTE can provide.”

In 2014, AT&T launched two major initiatives to lead innovation in the connected car market. The first was a pioneering connected car innovation center in Atlanta, called the AT&T Drive Studio. The second was a new global automotive solution and development platform, now called AT&T Drive.

AT&T Drive Studio features a working lab and showroom to build and exhibit the latest innovations. It also serves as a hub where AT&T works directly with companies and responds to automakers’ opportunities.

AT&T Drive is the company’s connected car platform - a modular and flexible, global solution that allows automakers to pick and choose what services and capabilities are important to them. It also allows them to differentiate their solutions in the marketplace. AT&T Drive can be used for connectivity, billing solutions, data analytics and infotainment. The platform will allow automakers and developers to build their own innovative and customized connected car solutions.

AT&T is a telematics leader and already provides connectivity to vehicles around the globe. AT&T was the first major wireless carrier to launch a proprietary, global SIM platform designed for cars. The platform allows automotive, consumer and M2M equipment makers to use a single carrier to wirelessly enable and connect products across the globe. Cars are being sold throughout the world today with this SIM.
