Residents of Apartments and Condos to Enjoy U-verse High-Speed Internet, TV and Phone Service

Company Wants to Hear From Interested Property Owners, Management Groups and Developers

DALLAS, June 16, 2015 — Apartment and condo residents could soon enjoy the benefits of ultra-fast Internet service, with speeds up to 1 gigabit per second.* AT&T** is working with property owners, management groups and developers to reach agreements to deliver U-verse with AT&T GigaPower to additional new and existing multifamily living units.

AT&T will initially focus the expansion of the AT&T GigaPower fiber network to multifamily living units located in some of the fastest-growing rental markets across the nation.  These markets include areas where U-verse with AT&T GigaPower is available or where plans to launch the service have been announced – Atlanta, Austin, Charlotte, Chicago, Cupertino, Dallas, Fort Worth, Greensboro, Houston, Jacksonville, Kansas City, Miami, Nashville, Raleigh-Durham,   St. Louis, San Antonio and Winston-Salem.

“We want to bring ultra-fast Internet speeds and access to content in real-time to more of our customers,” said Joni Arison, AT&T senior vice president of AT&T Emerging Markets. “We’re working with property owners, management groups, homeowner associations and developers to expand the availability of high-speed Internet over our AT&T GigaPower network. This will make properties more attractive by offering Internet speeds up to 1 gigabit per second so residents can quickly connect to the cloud, telecommute more easily, video chat in real-time and stream the latest entertainment.”

U-verse with AT&T GigaPower gives customers the speed they need to power all of their devices.  With speeds up to 1 gigabit per second, a customer can download 25 songs from the Internet in less than a second or an HD movie in 36 seconds.**** They will also have access to AT&T’s award-winning U-verse TV and Voice services.

“We’ve seen tremendous growth in apartments, condos and communities. There’s also more demand by residents to stay connected to the content that matters most,” said Scott DeGarmo, president and CEO of Broadband Communities.  “AT&T’s commitment to expand U-verse with AT&T GigaPower is about delivering high-speed Internet connections to keep people connected, informed and entertained.”

The AT&T Connected Communities℠ (ACC) team is working with property owners and managers who are interested in bringing this service to their location.  To connect current and potential residents to their content now and in the future, the ACC team is able to plan and place a fiber-optic network in three easy steps:

  1. Evaluation: Nominate your property for fiber consideration by visiting www.att.com/fiberproperties.
  2. Design: AT&T engineers will develop a fiber overbuild design of the existing telecommunications network to be approved by the selected property’s stakeholders.
  3. Deploy: Once an agreement is reached, AT&T technicians will carefully install the AT&T GigaPower network to minimize disruption to the property and residents.

U-verse with AT&T GigaPower Availability

The success of the first AT&T GigaPower market in Austin in 2013 has led to a major expansion of services.  AT&T plans to expand its 100 percent fiber network to single-family homes and multifamily living units in up to 25 markets.

Additionally, AT&T has committed that upon approval of its proposed acquisition of DIRECTV, the company will expand the AT&T GigaPower network to an additional 2 million customer locations. All of these 2 million locations are over and above what the company announced in 2014.
