Investment Expands Access to Nation’s Strongest 4G LTE Signal,
AT&T U-verse Services

SAN FRANCISO, CA., March 25, 2015 — AT&T* has invested more than $2.2 billion in its best-in-class wireless and wired networks in the San Francisco area1 from 2012 through 2014, driving a wide range of upgrades to enhance reliability, coverage, speed and performance for residents and business customers.

As part of its Project Velocity IP (VIP), an investment plan focused on network enhancement and expansion, AT&T in 2014 made 88 wireless network upgrades in the San Francisco area, including 23 new cell sites, increased network capacity and 31 new wireless high-speed Internet connections. Additionally, AT&T expanded the reach of its network, providing access to AT&T U-verse® High Speed Internet, AT&T U-verse video and AT&T U-verse voice services to more than 49,000 new customer locations.

“At AT&T, we know that Californians demand a world-class communications network – whether it’s to power the latest wearable device, or to develop the best new app,” said Ken McNeely, President of AT&T California. “We’re proud that our continued investment in California is driving innovation and opening up new possibilities for consumers and entrepreneurs.”

Notable San Francisco area network enhancements in 2014 included:

  • Installation of a Distributed Antenna System (DAS) at California Memorial Stadium in Berkeley to expand AT&T’s mobile Internet coverage and enhance fans’ mobile experiences throughout the stadium.
  • 4G LTE expansion to the Parkside and Lower Haight neighborhoods of San Francisco.
  • 4G LTE expansion to Castro Valley, Concord, Fremont, Hayward, Lafayette and Pleasanton.

“Building a fast, reliable 21st century communications network is critical to the economic success of the Bay Area,” said Jim Wunderman, President and CEO of the Bay Area Council. “AT&T understands this, and the significant investments they are making here will give us enhanced connectivity, help spur new jobs and ensure the Bay Area continues to be a global innovation leader.”
