With exciting games played at both AT&T Park in San Francisco and Busch Stadium in St. Louis, baseballs weren’t the only thing flying out of the park, as fans were using their mobile devices to send data out of the park too, sharing exciting moments with family and friends.

Our mobile network at these two ballparks is powered by AT&T venue-specific cellular Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS). On these networks, we saw some interesting data traffic metrics during the latest round of October baseball action:

  • We saw big increases in the average mobile data usage per game during the League Championship Round of the playoffs compared to the average data usage per game during the regular season home finale of both teams.
    • At Busch Stadium in St. Louis, we saw a 66% increase in data traffic on our cellular network.
    • At AT&T Park in San Francisco, we saw a 62% increase in data traffic on our cellular network.
  • The average mobile data usage per game at Busch Stadium in St. Louis was more than 496GB. This is equivalent to more than 1.41M social media posts with photos.
    • This showed an increase of approximately 38% compared to the average game during the divisional round of this year’s playoffs at Busch Stadium (played on 10/6 & 10/7).
  • The average mobile data usage per game at AT&T Park in San Francisco was more than 346GB. This is equivalent to more than 986K social media posts with photos.
    • This showed an increase of approximately 10% compared to the average game during the divisional round of this year’s playoffs at AT&T Park (played on 10/6 & 10/7).
  • The highest single game total for mobile data usage at Busch Stadium in St. Louis was more than 508GB of data. This is equivalent to more than 1.45M social media posts with photos.

  • The highest single game total for mobile data usage At AT&T Park in San Francisco was more than 364GB of data. This is equivalent to more than 1.04M social media posts with photos.
  • The highest peak hour of mobile data usage in a single game at Busch Stadium in St. Louis was more than 84GB of data on the network from 8-9pm CT on 10/11.
  • The highest peak hour of mobile data usage in a single game At AT&T Park in San Francisco was more than 74GB of data on the network from 6-7pm PT on 10/16, the hour in which the Giants scored their first runs of the final game of the series.
  • In addition, on the AT&T Wi-Fi network at AT&T Park we saw an average of more than 1,253GB of data move across our network during the League Championship round series.
    • 1,253GB is equivalent to more than 3.58M social media post with photos.
    • Wi-Fi usage increased approximately 39% from Game 3 to Game 5 of the series, with Wi-Fi data usage during Game 5 totaling 1,478GB.
  • The average collective data usage during the series equaled approximately 1.6TB of data across both our cellular and Wi-Fi networks at AT&T Park.
    • 1.6TB is equivalent to more than 4.57M social media post with photos.
    • Total data usage increased approximately 33% from Game 3 to Game 5 of the series, with total data usage during Game 5 totaling 1.84TB.
