September 19th marks our third annual day of action for the It Can Wait movement to end texting while driving and we need your help to keep the momentum going by spreading the word about #X. If you don’t know how to use #X before your drive, check out the video below.

Using #X is a way to pause all text, social, or email conversation before you drive. You can help save a life by creating new norms and behaviors for safe driving. With today marking the third annual day of action, we ask that you “get loud” with #X in social media.

Here are the top 3 ways to get involved:

  1. #XSelfie – Take a selfie of yourself in the reflection of the driver’s side window of your car as you’re about to #X before you drive. The picture should capture the door handle or the frame of the window. Then share it on social media and tag it with #X. Be sure to tag the friends you text the most to let them know how important it is to #X before you drive. Ask your friends who they will #XSelfie to spread the word on how to pause the conversation, one selfie at a time.
  2. Social Profile Takeover – On September 19th change your Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram profile picture to a #X before you drive image. You can download options as well as other printable posters and It Can Wait images here.
  3. Go to ItCanWait.com – On September 19th Create a Meme of a message that has been sent to you while driving. Then share the meme & tag three friends in your social channels to reinforce the dangers of texting while driving and It Can Wait®. We are hoping to motivate others to do the same and bring to light ideas that passengers can say drivers that are texting behind the wheel.

We have big plans for 2014 and it starts with you! Speak up when you see someone texting and driving. No text is worth a life.

This is only the beginning; continue to check ItCanWait.com for more information, tips, and tools.
