When we talk about building the world’s fastest and most secure broadband networks, collaboration is key. That’s why I was thrilled when AT&T hosted the recent FSAN (Full-Service Access Network) and ITU (International Telecommunication Union) Study Group 15 meetings right here in AT&T HQ. We welcomed over 35 global operators, state representatives, and equipment vendors, all dedicated to advancing the technology that powers the connected world.
How we lead the way
FSAN and ITU are the leading international research groups shaping the standards for optical access networks. Their work helps set the stage for innovations that impact every aspect of modern connectivity.
At AT&T, our team plays leading role in both FSAN and ITU, helping to push the boundaries of Passive Optical Network (PON) technology and set industry priorities for the years ahead.
What we accomplished
In addition to gathering for excellent Texas steak in our hometown, the group advanced several critical initiatives important to the broadband industry.
- FSAN Roadmap: A clear path forward for industry.
- Advancing 50G PON and 200G VHSP: These new standards promise even higher speeds and more robust connections.
- Evaluating advanced security models and solutions, including quantum security, to ensure broadband networks remain secure and future ready.
- Integrating AI into broadband: Smarter networks for smarter homes and businesses.
- Exploring new use cases focused on reducing latency to deliver differentiated services and improved experiences for gaming, streaming, and critical applications.
Global collaboration and setting common standards are key to creating a strong, interoperable ecosystem, from chip makers to optics providers and equipment manufacturers. This enables us to deliver innovative, high-quality, and cost-effective services to our customers. By hosting these critical technical discussions, we continue our leadership role in shaping the future of broadband.
