DIRECTV's Enhanced Coverage of 149th Open Championship
Enhanced Coverage of 149th Open Championship Available on DIRECTV in 4K UHD
As the 149th Open Championship tees off at Royal St. George’s Golf Club in Sandwich, England on July 15-18, DIRECTV will again offer golf fans 4K1 Ultra High Definition (UHD)/HDR and customizable Open Championship Experience coverage.
DIRECTV has been providing enhanced, customizable coverage and interactive capabilities around the Open Championship and other major golf tournaments (The Masters and the U.S. Open) for several years. Earlier this year, it provided enhanced coverage the U.S. Women’s Open for the first time.
“The Open Championship is one of the most anticipated events globally on the annual sports calendar,” said Rob Thun, executive vice president and chief content officer at DIRECTV. “After bringing two other major golf championships to viewers in 4K, we are pleased to also give fans the opportunity to watch this year’s final major of 2021 in 4K/HDR on DIRECTV.”
The Open Championship Experience features 4K UHD/HDR coverage of Holes 14, 15, and 16 on channel 105 as well as a mosaic channel (Ch. 901) of ongoing tournament action, simulcasts of GOLF Channel or NBC (Ch. 902) coverage, and two dedicated “featured group” HD channels, enabling fans to follow four different groups of competitors (two in the morning and two in the afternoon) each day. Those will be on channels 904 and 905. There will also be Featured Holes coverage in HD on channel 903.
Viewers will also be able to use the DIRECTV Experience interactive menu to check tee-times and each player’s position on the course, look up scores on prior holes, or call up an interactive leaderboard with up-to-the-minute standings.
The featured groups chosen each day will impact the times for DIRECTV’s coverage, and have yet to be determined.
