A recent study found hard evidence that social media does directly drive consumer purchases.

Here are some generalities that can help you to target your social media outreach to in turn reach the right audiance to trigger sales:

  • If you're trying to reach older women (or women in general), head for Pinterest, where 83 percent of users are women.
  • Trying to reach younger men (18-34)? They're more prevalent on Twitter.
  • Facebook is a good middle ground for reaching all types of people, since it's used by nearly three-fourths of respondents and popular with both sexes and all ages.
