Inspiring Others Our Way

By Joseph “Rev Run” & Justine Simmons
Our focus as a family has always been about love and positivity. It’s been a real pleasure to inspire others to do the same.
When all the running around the world ends and renovations are over and we’ve taken the last bite of supper on Sunday, we are just like any other American family. We have our challenges. We have our good times, but the most important thing is that we do it our way.
Our way focuses on faith and family.
Those are qualities that shine brightly in a world that can be sometimes dark. That’s why we were thrilled to be a part of AT&T’s big presence at this year’s ESSENCE Festival. We could bring the Inspired Mobility message and encourage festival goers to Be the Glow.
That was the theme of the beautiful AT&T pavilion. There, we chatted with actress Holly Robinson Peete about how we stay inspired and inspire others while we’re busy with our TV shows, on the road with RunDMC, and even DJ-ing some of the best events around the world.
When we arrived at the New Orleans convention center, we were greeted by adoring fans.
It’s hard to believe that it’s been 12 years since the premiere of Run’s House on MTV. Fans still remember the show and excited to take selfies with us as we approached the stage. That’s how many people remember us: Rev Run, Justine and the kids--just doing what families do every day.
Run’s House launched after a great run with the legendary RunDMC, and we suspect it may have been a refreshing surprise to tune in to us just doing what families do.
This is entertainment our way.
That’s why we’re thrilled to know that AT&T is transforming into an entertainment company. Our family wouldn’t be where it is today without entertainment. We strive to develop positive content you can stream on your devices with services like DIRECTV NOW, watch on DIRECTV or even access on social media.
This is living inspired on your terms.
Previously, you may have seen only Rev appearing on behalf of AT&T Inspired Mobility. But it made complete sense to have Justine there, too. Essence Music Festival’s primary audience is women. Also, recent Inspired Mobility research showed that more black women are connecting with inspirational content than any other group.
For us, you’ll see Justine and the kids on Rev’s Instagram handle, where we share advice about love, marriage and family. Positive content like this makes a difference, and people give us that feedback every day.
We live in a time where every time you turn on the TV or check out your social media newsfeed negativity abounds. So we’re glad to call everyone to action to be a light where it’s been dark. Be the Glow by posting positive and inspirational quotes, memes, music, photos and videos and be sure to use the hashtag #InspiredMobility. Then add on #BeTheGlow to let us know that you’re down with the positive vibe, too.
