Small business is the backbone of the American economy. Every year since 1963, the President of the United States issues a proclamation announcing National Small Business Week, which recognizes the critical contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners. This year small business week is May 12-16, 2014.

Events across the nation will take place, organized by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). Activities will include forums and panels discussing trends in small business, business innovation, financing and growth. There are also business matchmaking events available for small business attendees. A complete list of events and cities can be found on the National Small Business Week website. In addition to SBA events, many communities are celebrating in their own way.  Activities range from the small and informal to fairly elaborate.
