Fastest growing

AT&T has fiber in 85 of the nation’s largest metro areas and market our service to 14 million households. We have the fastest growing fiber internet subscriber base in America. Currently, both fiber and cable offer 1 gig speeds on the down link. But fiber also offers upload speeds 20x faster than a 1 gig cable customer. 1 gig cable customers actually only get 35 megabits a second in upload speed. That translates to a really differentiated experience for fiber customers when doing things like video conferencing. In the future, we're going to carry that speed advantage into our ability to get multi-gig speeds out to our customers faster than cable will be able to do because of the investment in our fiber network. Our fiber network has fewer customers sharing the same transport than cable customers in a neighborhood/area, which means fiber customers have more bandwidth even during peak time than cable customers typically.

Working together

AT&T is working closely and collaboratively with the government, our industries and customers to expand and enhance our networks to reach rural areas. We are on the frontline, diligently working to close the digital divide by supporting and participating in broadband expansion initiatives that will benefit rural Americans now and for years to come. The COVID-19 Pandemic has highlighted all the benefits of AT&T Fiber. During the pandemic, everyone in the household was using the internet at the same time. We saw the number of active devices go up by 22%. More importantly, though, was that everyone was engaging in high bandwidth applications, the most popular being video conferencing. While we continue to expand and enhance our networks, we support policies enabling the deployment of broadband infrastructure in America’s most remote areas.
