The fictional series based on the novel El Fútbol No Es Así, written by Javier Tebas, is a hit among viewers and critics alike

The production premiered July 15th on OnDIRECTV and DIRECTV Play, and aired its first season finale on September 3rd. The Pay TV operator subscribers will now have a chance to catch up with the series marathon on TV or relive the episodes via on demand on its TV Everywhere platform.

Following the first season broadcast of “Todo por el Juego,” DIRECTV Latin America’s original series, it’s clear the series has captivated the audience.

The July ratings for the series’ linear distribution on OnDIRECTV, DIRECTV Latin America’s proprietary and exclusive channel, show that “Todo por el Juego” was the No. 1 ranked series for the month, competing with a number of well-known series premiering that month on the channel.

“Todo por el Juego,” developed and produced by MEDIAPRO Group and DIRECTV, benefited from a post-World Cup finals match premiere, which was promoted during DIRECTV’s soccer coverage on its DIRECTV Sports channel. The series lifted the prime time slot by an impressive 53% over the previous title and sustained the audience over the 3 episodes aired in July and using the most comprehensive ratings to date.

“Todo por el Juego”’s appeal reached all corners of the region. It over-indexed in DIRECTV’s 2 most geographically differentiated markets, Uruguay and Venezuela.

On the digital side via DIRECTV Play, OnDIRECTV full-season offerings typically dominate the rankings among all of DIRECTV’s channel offerings with a mix of premium international titles. In July, “Todo por el Juego” (with only 2 episodes to sample) broke into the top 15 titles on the platform, surpassing productions that had been on DIRECTV’s TV Everywhere platform for a longer period. Following the season finale and with all the episodes available for viewers to watch anytime and anywhere, it’s estimated to become one of the most watched series on this platform in 2018.

Social media response has been fast and positive. DIRECTV’s Latin America subscribers clearly are enjoying the plot twists and intrigue led by the creative vision of the award-winning Argentine writer, Eduardo Sacheri, and showrunner and director, Daniel Calparsoro.

The show’s fans were able to participate on August 8th in a Facebook Live interview with series stars, Roberto Enríquez (Mariano Hidalgo) and Patricia Vico (Nuria Ballesteros) hosted by DIRECTV Sports reporter Alex Candal. The initiative attracted more than 410,000 views and a reach of over 2 million people within DIRECTV’s viewing audience. Women age 35-44 scored the top demo.

“We’re thrilled with the critical and fan response of ‘Todo por el Juego,’” commented Willard Tressel, general manager of OnDIRECTV. He said, “We’re clearly committed to delivering quality content to our subscribers and making it available to them wherever and whenever they choose…and we’re glad our viewers are taking advantage of that!”

Imagina International Sales, the series international sales agent, licensed “Todo por el Juego” to premiere on SKY MEXICO’s exclusive channel, SKY ONE.  Kevin Marcin Pallares, manager of SKY ONE commented, “Todo por el Juego has exceeded our expectations in terms of quality and viewer response.”

“The performance of ‘Todo por el Juego’ on DIRECTV proves that great content, unique storylines and well-fitted quality co-productions travel across continents, and this is the type of content our increasingly global and demanding viewers are expecting”, said Javier Mendez Zori, head of content for Mediapro.
