Key Takeaways:
- AT&T customers turned to our network to upload live streams, share, and stay connected throughout the Big Game.
- AT&T’s network successfully handled the heavy demand, setting a new AT&T data-usage record at the stadium.
- FirstNet®, Built with AT&T gave first responders an unparalleled level of support leading up to and during the Big Game.
The Big Game isn’t just watched, it’s shared. From the pregame hype to the final whistle, AT&T customers posted reactions, live streamed the highlights to friends, and kept group chats buzzing. Fans across the country relied on AT&T to stay connected and share the play-by-play as it happened.
AT&T football fans used 24.4 terabytes (TB) of data on America’s largest wireless network1 to share the biggest moments of the biggest game. This high volume of data broke all previous AT&T records at the stadium, proving our network can handle massive, game-day demand when it matters most. To put that in perspective, that’s equivalent to streaming ~6 million hours of music or posting ~4.8 million social posts with photos.
“Big moments bring people together, and they also drive big demand on our network,” said Robert Walters, SVP Network, AT&T. “AT&T’s network delivered excellent performance as fans shared photos, videos, and reactions throughout the game. That’s why we plan, build, and test—so customers can stay connected when the moments matter most.”
And at a time when people are sharing more content than ever before, the need for public safety to have reliable connectivity has never been more vital. As public safety’s true network partner, FirstNet, Built with AT&T gave first responders an unparalleled level of support:
- The FirstNet Response Operations Group™ (ROG) – led by former first responders – was embedded with public safety to address their immediate needs leading up to and during the Big Game.
- Deployed multiple portable cell sites from the dedicated FirstNet fleet, such as SatCOLTs (Satellite Cells on Light Trucks), RCVs (Response Communications Vehicles, CRDs (Compact Rapid Deployables) and other solutions designed to provide additional dedicated connectivity if required.
- Additionally, we tapped into the AT&T commercial fleet, bringing its newest addition, LCTs (LEO Cell Trailers) to key event locations.
- And with always-on priority, and preemption for first responders, FirstNet subscribers were able to stay connected and operate as fast, safe and effective as ever.
