AT&T Earns Top Spot on PPI U.S. Investment Heroes Rankings For Third Straight Year
DALLAS, Sept. 11, 2014 — For the third year in a row AT&T* sits atop the Progressive Policy Institute’s (PPI) roundup of U.S. Investment Heroes. The annual study recognizes the top 25 American companies investing in the United States. This year’s report, U.S. Investment Heroes of 2014: Investing at Home in a Connected World, found telecom and cable companies to be the strongest sector for domestic capital spending, with AT&T leading the group.
AT&T has a long track record of domestic investment. Over the past six years (2008-2013), the company has invested more in the U.S. economy than any other public company. AT&T’s total investment during this time, including acquisitions of spectrum and wireless operations totals more than $140 billion. And AT&T expects to invest another $21 billion in capital in 2014.
“We’re honored to be recognized by the PPI for our continued dedication to investing in the U.S.,” said John Stephens, CFO of AT&T. “Domestic investment is critical to continuing the economic gains our nation has made over the last several years, and our industry is leading the way in generating growth and U.S. jobs through its investments.”
AT&T’s investment initiatives include Project Velocity IP (VIP). Through Project VIP, AT&T is investing billions to significantly expand the availability of high speed Internet to more Americans. Pending regulatory approval of its planned acquisition of DIRECTV, AT&T has also committed to expand and enhance the deployment of its wireline and fixed wireless broadband network to 15 million customer locations. This commitment includes expansion of fixed wireless local loop broadband to 13 million new customer locations, largely in underserved, rural locations.
