AT&T Enhances Gameday Cellular Coverage at Baylor University’s McLane Stadium
New 4G LTE Distributed Antenna System, Which is Part of AT&T’s Project VIP Investment Plan, Provides Additional Cellular Wireless Capacity for Customers on Gamedays
WACO, TEXAS, November 17, 2014 — When a big play happens this season at McLane Stadium, football fans can expect to enjoy an enhanced cellular experience as they pull out their wireless devices to share the most exciting moments with friends and family.
As part of its continuing network investment to support growing demand for advanced wireless devices and services, AT&T* has expanded its cellular coverage at McLane Stadium by completing the installation of a Distributed Antenna System (DAS) to enhance customers’ cellular experience throughout the facility.
A DAS installation consists of multiple strategically-placed antennas that distribute AT&T’s cellular wireless network coverage throughout McLane Stadium, providing for more efficient management of wireless capacity in heavily-trafficked areas, such as football stadiums. DAS has the ability to provide enhanced, consistent cellular wireless coverage to customers in indoor or outdoor spaces where geographical limitations – terrain, building construction, etc. – or crowd density might otherwise prevent an optimal experience.
This season, fans have been eager to share their experiences with their friends and family back home, while checking scores and stats from football games across the country. On average, AT&T customers at McLane Stadium used more than 661 GB of mobile cellular data on game days across AT&T's venue-specific mobile network. That’s equivalent to more than 1.8 million social media posts with photos.

On October 11, Global Wireless Solutions (GWS), a leading independent benchmarking solutions vendor for the wireless industry, tested cellular mobile coverage at McLane and found that AT&T offered over 99% accessibility and reliability on the in-stadium DAS.
The McLane Stadium DAS is part of AT&T’s Project Velocity IP (VIP), a multi-year plan investment for growth, announced in 2012. Through this investment, AT&T is supporting its customers’ growing desire for high-quality, fast wireless and wired services nationwide. As part of Project VIP, AT&T is deploying small cell technology, macro cells and additional DAS, which will increase the density of our wireless network. The wireless network densification across the country will further improve network quality and increase spectrum efficiency.

DAS technology helps improve the cellular mobile experience by shortening the distance a request must travel.
