AT&T Expands Its User-Defined Network Cloud Program By Adding Alcatel-Lucent and Fujitsu
DALLAS, July 23, 2014 — AT&T* announces Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) and Fujitsu Network Communications Inc. as the newest vendors to join its User-Defined Network Cloud program. These two suppliers, and the previously announced Juniper Networks (NYSE: JNPR), will work with AT&T to build the User-Defined Network Cloud.
Initially unveiled February 24, the User-Defined Network Cloud will place customers at the center of the network with a modern, cloud-based architecture, a global first at this scale. This vision is more than just a change in how the network is designed. It changes how AT&T does business, works with suppliers and manages systems, platforms and software.
“The architecture and deployment teams are finalizing their planned introduction of this new architecture, which we expect to roll out later this year and early 2015,” said Tim Harden, president, AT&T Supply Chain. “We look forward to collaborating with Fujitsu and Alcatel-Lucent to achieve our next-generation network.”
The User-Defined Network Cloud builds on AT&T’s best-in-class network status and is expected to accelerate time-to-market with technologically advanced products and services. AT&T anticipates announcing its next round of vendors to assist with this network deployment in the next few weeks.
AT&T is not revising its previously announced capital expenditure as a result of this announcement. However, in the next five years, AT&T expects the User-Defined Network Cloud program to reflect a downward bias toward capital spending. This will come from growing the vendor community, relying less on specialized hardware and using more common off-the-shelf equipment, and deploying open service and network components that are reusable.
