AT&T Foundry Innovation Center Opens in Mexico
The AT&T Innovation Center, Located in Mexico City, Expands AT&T Foundry’s International Presence and Marks First Facility in Latin America
AT&T* has opened its first AT&T Foundry innovation center in Latin America. Lic. Edgar Olvera Jiménez, Undersecretary of Communications of the Ministry of Communications and Transport, Mexico, joined Kelly King, CEO of AT&T in Mexico, at the official opening.
Located inside AT&T in Mexico’s corporate headquarters in downtown Mexico City, the AT&T Foundry will be dedicated to developing technology solutions for emerging markets, including IoT, software development and new technology trials.
AT&T Foundry, a global network of innovation centers, was created to bring ideas from concept to commercialization faster than previously possible. These entrepreneurial facilities work in 12-week sprint cycles to design and develop new applications and platforms that benefit AT&T and our customers.
Since 2011, AT&T has opened locations in 6 cities around the world, including Mexico. These innovation centers work with developers, startups and other companies to identify new opportunities and quickly build and test prototypes.
"We’re experiencing a transformation in the way we innovate. Now, emerging economies have the potential to develop technology solutions attuned to the particular needs of their markets," said Kelly King, CEO of AT&T Mexico. “What makes this innovation center so special is that it’s plugged into the global AT&T Foundry network. The innovation in Mexico will leverage the talent and experience of all our innovation centers across the world. Mexico, too, will become a contributor to the technologies being developed in other countries.”
“The Telecommunications Reform has transformed the sector into a market with greater competition by attracting new investments,” said Lic. Edgar Olvera Jiménez, Undersecretary of Communications of the Ministry of Communications and Transport, Mexico. “In this sense, today we celebrate that AT&T continues betting on the Reform and Mexico, bringing investment, generating jobs, and sharing knowledge through this new innovation center, the AT&T Foundry.”
The construction of the AT&T Foundry, located in the heart of Mexico City, took 4 months of work and roughly 2,000 hours of labor.
"We decided to open an AT&T Foundry in Mexico because we see great potential in the country to explore new technologies and solve challenges faced by local entrepreneurs,” said Arturo Barraza, director of the AT&T Foundry in Mexico. “Thanks to this innovation center, we can help accelerate small, medium and large businesses in emerging markets by bridging the gap between concept and commercialization.”
The AT&T Foundry in Mexico joins locations in 5 cities around the world, including:
- Plano, Texas: Specializes in IoT, manufacturing, retail and data analytics
- Palo Alto, California: Focuses on edge computing, quantum networking and machine learning
- Israel: Dedicated to 5G, cybersecurity, entertainment and software-defined networking
