Upgrades Provide Additional Wireless Capacity and Coverage for Customers

When golf fans head out to Monterey for this year’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, they can expect an enhanced AT&T* mobile experience.  They’ll have fast, reliable connections as they share all the excitement from the links with friends and family.

We’re boosting our mobile Internet coverage for the tournament, as part of our continuing investment to support growing demand for wireless devices and services. To do this, we’re pulling 2 specialty clubs out of our network tool bag – our AT&T Cell on Wheels (COW) and AT&T Wi-Fi. Together, these 2 solutions will provide temporary cellular and Wi-Fi service throughout the tournament area so fans can share experiences faster and easier.

“Our customers deserve the best possible experience at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am as they enjoy a fully connected experience on our network,” said Jeni Bell, vice president and general manager, of AT&T Northern California. “It’s an incredible event each year for the community, made more interactive as our customers check tournament stats, text and share their experience on social media. Having a fast, reliable network is just one way we’re continuing care for our Northern California customers.”

We know big events like AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am place mean increased wireless network demand. We prepared by strengthening wireless coverage. We deployed 2 COWs which provide 50% more LTE capacity for customers this year. They’ll improve reliability and data speeds during the tournament for fans in attendance. The COWs will cover the Pebble Beach Golf Course and the Monterey Peninsula Country Club Course.

Our customers also will enjoy an enhanced mobile experience thanks to Wi-Fi on the Pebble Beach Golf Course. The temporary Wi-Fi deployment of more than 120 access points let spectators connect in certain areas. These Wi-Fi zones are in 7 unique coverage areas: the Grand Entrance, the Lodge (putting green/outdoors), the tent, club, skybox and pavilion areas on holes 3, 15, 17 and 18 and the AT&T Digital Clubhouse at the triangle of holes 6, 8 and 14.

AT&T invested more than $2.2 billion in its San Francisco area wireless and wireline networks from 2012 through 2014.
