Mexico City and AT&T Sign a Smart City Agreement
As part of AT&T’s Smart Cities Program, a market in Mexico City will be connected.
Mexico City’s Ministry of Economic Development (SEDECO) and AT&T* signed an agreement to run an Internet of Things (IoT) pilot in a capital´s market. This initiative focuses on the development of a Smart City and is part of SEDECO’s “Program to Promote and Improve Public Markets in Mexico City”.
The agreement announcement took place at an event at AT&T’s Business Experience Center (CXE). The Secretary of Economic Development of Mexico City, Salomón Chertorivski and the CEO of AT&T in Mexico, Kelly King, attended.
This initiative reaffirms the company's interest in Smart Cities projects, designed to promote sustainable development and effective management, by using technology and connectivity.
During the pilot, the market will be equipped with Wi-Fi connectivity, which will facilitate transactions, increase business possibilities and improve the overall experience for merchants and clients. Additionally, the project contemplates a video surveillance and analytical video system, which can analyze movements, speed patterns and detect anomalies, among other things. For the first time, a Mexican city will use the Internet of Things Platform “AT&T Control Center”, to efficiently manage connected devices in real-time.
“The main economic activity in Mexico City is commerce. Markets are an essential part of this. That is why, with this project, merchants and customers will enjoy connectivity and transform the way they operate,” said Kelly King, CEO of AT&T in México.
“We want to help Mexico City become a leader in Smart Cities, inspiring many other cities in the world,” he added.
AT&T’s Smart Cities project promotes innovative solutions to improve people’s lives and accelerate business development.
