AT&T Mexico Community Impact Award Winner
Spotlight on Denise Livier Bautista Estrada: training a new generation of teachers
This year, we launched the Community Impact Award to recognize employees who make a positive impact in their world. We received hundreds of nominations and stories of employees who live our value to make a difference. Our employees voted for the story that resonated with them most. We’re pleased to introduce you to the AT&T Mexico Community Impact Award winner.
After graduating from high school, Denise Livier Bautista Estrada volunteered to teach schoolchildren in a small rural community in the mountains of Jalisco, Mexico. That experience changed her in ways she never expected and increased her appreciation for the impact teachers make on a community.
More than a decade later, Denise is a volunteer training a new generation of teachers from some of the most disadvantaged communities outside of Guadalajara. She knows this is a way to help shape the future of not only the individuals she trains, but also her community.
“It’s easy to be immersed in your own world and take what you have for granted” she said. “Volunteering helps me feel empowered to participate in the development of my country and the people around me.”
