Allison Whittaker won a "Black Engineer of the Year" award in 2015. She remembers accepting the award and feeling a long way from her island home of Barbados, but she also recalls how much that award meant to her. It meant that all of the hard work had paid off. It meant that her mother was right – women can do anything men can do. And most of all, it meant that she's been doing great work.

As a Principal Member of Technical Staff in Atlanta, Allison is on the frontline of our evolution to a software-defined network – a project that is so crucial to the company.
