All Star Code is thrilled to announce an innovative collaboration with AT&T for The 2015 All Star Code Summer Intensive. With the shared goal of empowering students everywhere to reach their highest potential, AT&T has awarded All Star Code $100,000 in support through AT&T Aspire. This exciting new collaboration will additionally provide seven All Star Code students, who will be named AT&T scholars, with scholarships, free laptops and supplies for embodying creativity, intellect and curiosity.

Teaching them to code is an investment that has unlimited potential return, whether in new ideas and innovation or increased economic opportunity, and we’re tremendously excited to have AT&T’s help in fostering the next generation of tech pioneers,” said Christina Lewis Halpern, Founder and Executive Director of All Star Code.

Both Microsoft NY and Alley NYC will host All Star Code’s 2015 Summer Intensive, a unique six-week program designed to educate, inspire and equip high school boys of color with the skills, networks, and system know-how needed to pursue careers in tech. Of the 40 students in this year’s program, 31 students are local to New York City – representing Brooklyn, Bronx,
Queens, and Manhattan. The other 9 students come from New Jersey, Virginia, Arizona, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Maryland, representing 7 states in total. While more than half of the students identify as African-American/Black, more than a quarter identify as Latino, and 10% identify as Asian or Other. 80% of the class receives either free/reduced lunch or financial aid at school as well.
The All Star Code Summer Intensive will include site visits to Spotify, YouTube, Goldman Sachs, GLG, The Center For Social Innovation, The Flatiron School, Yelp and Dev Bootcamp. Additional program support is provided by Dropbox, Google, Dentons Venture Technology, and NewsCorp.
AT&T Aspire is AT&T’s signature initiative that drives innovation in education to support student success in school and beyond. Through Aspire, AT&T is investing in innovative education organizations, tools and solutions and engaging their employees through student mentoring.
