Machine-to-Machine (M2M)/Connected Devices (CD) innovators at the AT&T Foundry took the initiative to create a Smart Bin system that monitors bins’ fullness and provides actionable information to a shredder bin company’s operations.
With the Smart Bin, shredder bin companies and its employees can provide personalized service for their customers, simultaneously reducing costs and environmental impact. The Smart Bin’s enclosures were designed and 3D-printed at the AT&T Foundry M2M center to house the controller and sensors in one package. With the ability to monitor activity of individual Smart Bins in real time, detect bin changes, provide audible/visual tamper alerts and send service requests, the company can serve its customers intelligently, eliminating unnecessary pickups.
Developed and prototyped end-to-end in just three days, Smart Bin is an example of the M2M/CD innovation center’s rapid prototyping capabilities. The project also embodies what the AT&T Foundry is uniquely positioned to achieve with data in a cloud-based environment – on the software and hardware side – due to its network and data infrastructure. Innovators at the AT&T Foundry M2M/CD facility have the tools and expertise to quickly take ideas and equate them to real-world prototype solutions for businesses and customers.
