More Than 180 Registered to Compete in 2014 Malaysia Developers' Day - Asean Edition
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, Sept. 15, 2014 – More than 180 creative individuals from across Asia have signed up to participate in 2014 Malaysia Developers’ Day – ASEAN Edition beginning Wednesday.
The Malaysia Developers’ Day is a contest that challenges participants from 14 Asian countries* to develop a mobile application within 24 hours. AT&T** and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) are co-hosting the event and will provide tools, education, mentors and prizes valued more than US$15,000 (~MYR47,400). Participants will work in teams to come up with apps to compete in three categories under the overarching theme of “Building a Digital Ecosystem.”

“We are thrilled to see the enthusiastic response to this year’s Malaysia Developers’ Day. We know there are creative minds out there in the region, and we are excited to give them a unique opportunity to come together and collaborate to bring innovation to life,” said Carlton Hill, vice president, Device Operations and Developer Services, AT&T.
“Last year’s event was a success with more than 110 Malaysian participants creating 24 app ideas. This year, developers from ASEAN will participate. This will definitely make the competition more interesting,” said MCMC Chief Industry Development Officer, Dato’ Mohd Ali Hanafiah. “We hope to see collaboration and even bigger and better ideas that will help build a community of innovation and digital ecosystem across our region.”
Malaysia Developers’ Day 2014 – ASEAN Edition will take place in the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from 9.00 a.m. MYT on September 17 to 5.00 p.m. on September 18. Category-winning finalists will present their apps at the KL Converge! Gala Dinner on September 19 for a chance take home the grand prize of US$10,000.
*Participation includes developers from ASEAN countries - Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, as well as ASEAN’s dialogue partners – mainland China, India, Japan and Republic of Korea.
