AT&T Continues Expansion of National MDU Presence with Super-Fast Broadband Alternative in Boston Area

AT&T* is offering another option for super-fast internet for apartments and condominiums in Boston.

Meriel Marina Bay is the first apartment complex in the Boston area that is enabled for Gfast. Boston is the second metro where we’ve launched a Gfast property outside of our traditional 21-state home internet service area. Gfast offers internet access to multi dwelling units (MDUs) over existing coaxial or Cat 5 cables. This means less disruption for current residents because there’s no need to access a resident’s unit until they order service.

We’ll start by offering internet speeds connections capable of 500 megabits per second (Mbps).1 Gfast also offers a future upgrade path to even higher broadband speeds. DIRECTV is also available through a centrally-wired satellite system for interested properties.

“While other Internet companies are leaving the city, were finding new ways to connect Bostonians,” said Ed Balcerzak, senior vice president, AT&T Connected Communities. “With Gfast we can connect more Boston area residents to information, entertainment and their community. We’re committed to providing connectivity to MDU residents in Boston. And we’ll do it through Gfast and millimeter wave.”

Gfast adds to our lineup of innovative solutions for MDUs, including fiber and millimeter-wave wireless access. We’re giving property owners more ways to provide their residents with high-speed internet and TV services. In addition to Gfast in Boston, we’ve deployed internet and TV services to out of region properties in Minneapolis, Philadelphia, and New York City.

In 2017, we began offering Gfast for MDUs with internet connections capable of 500 Mbps across 8 metros out of our 21-state traditional service area. We also announced plans to give apartment communities a new choice for internet in another 14 metro out of region areas.
