Using Tech to Find the Riches in your Food Waste
Noah Marsh and his wife Sarah incorporated Food FWD in Durham, North Carolina, in 2013 and were fully operational in 2014. They collect food waste from restaurants, hotels, schools, corporate cafeterias, and grocery stores in the Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill area and divert it to a composting facility in Goldston. That company creates a natural soil amendment and sells it to farmers, landscaping companies, and garden centers. Food FWD gets paid to haul the food scraps away and pays the composting facility to dump materials there.
