In my role as Chief Diversity & Development Officer at AT&T, I get to connect with many smart and passionate people. It’s truly a highlight of my day to have business chats or dive deep on the state of the world and what we can do to make change. Whatever the topic, I often leave inspired to do the work and sometimes I make a new friend in the process.
I am excited to now be able to share some of those discussions with you in my new segment called “Conversations with Corey.” In the series, you will see and hear from AT&T employees, my peers and colleagues, as well as experts who are on the frontlines advocating for equality and justice.
In the inaugural episode, I had the opportunity to talk about impact and service with Muneer Panjwani, VP of Foundation, Government and Corporate Partnerships from The Trevor Project, the world's largest suicide prevention organization for LGBTQ+ young people. Coming away from the conversation, there are some hard realities that we cannot ignore in our work with the LGBTQ+ community. A detail I have to share from a recent survey of the youth Trevor serves: 42% of LGBTQ youth seriously considered suicide in the last year alone, and more than half of transgender and non-binary youth have attempted suicide in the last year as well.
The Trevor Project’s work is critical to addressing the mental health needs of millions of LGBTQ+ Youth, and we are proud to have been part of their growth over the past 10 years. The funds and volunteers provided by AT&T have helped scale and increase the services that directly support this community.
