AT&T Expands its Connected Car Relationships in Mexico With Kia Motors

AT&T* is expanding its connected Car relationship with another major automobile maker – Kia Motors. Using the Internet of Things (IoT), AT&T will connect the recovery service of the new 2019 KIA Forte. This connectivity solution will be integrated into MyKIA +, a mobile app developed by the auto company.

MyKIA+ will give the car owner visibility of its KIA. KIA will use this solution its next vehicle portfolio, starting with the 2019 KIA Forte.  “Find My KIA” will be able to track and locate the car at any time, as well as limit virtual areas assigned by the user. In case of theft, this solution will also help locate the car through an agency dedicated to vehicle recovery.

The MyKIA+ will use the AT&T Control Center platform, which was designed to manage IoT solutions. This way, RESSER, the satellite tracking company that provides the vehicle recovery service, will be able to see in near-real time the location of the cars, speeding up the search process. The AT&T platform is supported by a highly reliable global scale network, which is monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

A leader in connected cars

AT&T is a leader in IoT. As of the 2nd quarter of 2018, it connects more than 44 million devices globally. In the 2nd quarter of 2018 alone, AT&T connected 1.9 million additional cars, totaling more than 21 million cars connected to the AT&T network.

Connected vehicles provide great value to consumers and communities. That’s why AT&T works with 27 of the world's leading car brands. We provide connectivity solutions that help prevent accidents, reduce traffic, improve safety, reduce carbon emissions and ease vehicle maintenance, among others.

"At AT&T we have global experience in the IoT industry, and as providers of integrated solutions, we simplify and improve the world through connectivity. The power of the AT&T network will offer advanced technology to KIA Motors drivers in Mexico," said Andrés Canales, assistant vice president, Internet of Things, AT&T in Mexico.

MyKIA + is a tool that will offer a comprehensive experience to all those who install it. The application will be available at no cost in August for Android operating systems, and later on for iOS.

The app makes its debut in all the new 2019 KIA Fortes. KIA is also planning to use this solution in other future new models. This will keep the company at the forefront of technology and service in Mexico.
