AT&T Launches “She’s Connected by AT&T” to Highlight and Support World Class Athletes & Entrepreneurs Chiney Ogwumike, Alex Morgan, Sue Bird and Maria Fassi

Continuing Its Commitment to Equality & Empowering Women in Business, AT&T Will Be Providing Each Athlete with Access to AT&T Small Business Services and Mentorship Opportunities to Support Their Endeavors On and Off the Playing Field

What’s the news? AT&T deepens its commitment to women in sports and women in business with the launch of the “She’s Connected by AT&T” program and documentary-style video campaigns shared across WarnerMedia’s linear, digital and social platforms starting on Dec. 15 through 2021.

Why it matters? Women athletes are multi-hyphenate – and often out of necessity given the disparity in visibility, access and opportunities for professional women athletes as compared to male counterparts. There is no “offseason” for a professional athlete who is also a mother, business owner, entrepreneur, philanthropist and an activist. By providing the tangible support of small business resources and mentorship, AT&T is taking action to address the inequality many women athletes face by supporting them as players and in the endeavors they pursue as working professionals – on and off the court, pitch, field or course.

“I’m a firm believer that if you can see her, you can be her,” said Shiz Suzuki, Associate Vice President, Sponsorships & Experiential Marketing, AT&T. “With the She’s Connected by AT&T content series and program, we are making impactful change for women now and women in the future to follow and achieve their dreams on any field, court, course, front office or boardroom.”

What is it? AT&T will be working with world-class athletes Chiney Ogwumike (WNBA, LA Sparks, ESPN personality), Alex Morgan (Co-Captain US Women's National Team, author and founder of a media company), Sue Bird (4-time WNBA Champion with Seattle Storm, 4-time Olympic gold medalist and activist) and Maria Fassi (LPGA, AT&T Athlete and aspiring philanthropist) to not only bring awareness to their stories – but power their dreams, businesses and endeavors with our products and services.

Each athlete will be offered the following tools and will collaborate with AT&T to build a tailored support package specific to their journey:

  • Storytelling: The creation and distribution of each athlete’s story in a documentary-style video campaign produced by award-winning Courageous Studios, brand studio for CNN and HLN.
  • Business Services Package: Specifically curated AT&T technology solutions for each athlete's business or foundation.
  • Corporate Mentorship: Access to AT&T Aspire Accelerator mentorship pipeline to grow and scale their business or foundations.
  • Personal Brand Building Resources: Access to brand marketing curriculum and virtual services created by AT&T.

AT&T deepens its commitment to women in sports and women in business with “She’s Connected by AT&T” – a docu-style series focused on spotlighting multi-dimensional women athletes, specifically those that have second jobs, side-hustles or careers outside of their sport. Chiney Ogwumike is the first athlete to share her story. Chiney has turned adversity into opportunity throughout her career. Last year was no different: she had to make a tough decision to not play in the condensed 2020 WNBA season due to her injury history, but turned the setback into a new opportunity, becoming the first Black woman to host her own ESPN national radio show as well as continuing to provide NBA analysis for ESPN.

Here we feature professional soccer player and mother, Alex Morgan as she discusses her journey and the fight for a more equal future for her daughter.

Here we feature LPGA golfer Maria Fassi on her journey to start her own foundation to inspire and empower special needs youth through the game of golf.

Here we feature two-time NCAA champion, four-time gold medal winner, and four-time WNBA champion Sue Bird as she discusses her legacy and the importance of using your voice and platform to fight for the issues you believe in

Why AT&T is committed? One of AT&T’s core values is “Stand for Equality.” This commitment is brought to action through various partnerships, like our sponsorship of the WNBA and our role as a WNBA Changemaker, and alongside our industry leadership role and continuous work with #SeeHer and #SeeHerInSports.
