AT&T and the AT&T Foundation Donate $50,000 to Support Eastern Kentucky Communities Impacted by Flash Flooding

AT&T* and the AT&T Foundation are donating $50,000 to the Team Eastern Kentucky Flood Relief Fund and Volunteers of America. Our goal with this donation is to aid those affected and meet the critical needs of the area following this disaster.

To bolster communications while our teams work to restore service, we have deployed temporary mobile towers and generators to several eastern Kentucky communities including Buckhorn Lake State Park in Perry County as well as having assets deployed in Breathitt County.

In addition, our teams have provided charging resources for use by residents who have been displaced and are housed at area shelters.

AT&T supports organizations who are active in Eastern Kentucky response and recovery. Information Technology Disaster Resource Center (ITDRC) is on the ground providing connectivity solutions – including portable charging stations – in the impacted areas. SBP will be there to support disaster recovery efforts on the ground and with the Equip app which has easy-to-access tools and information help users access eligible funding and avoid common recovery obstacles.

AT&T volunteers are also supporting the Crisis Cleanup hotline by connecting residents with local relief organizations to help with debris removal, drywall, flooring & appliance removal, mold mitigation, and more. Residents needing assistance can call 606-268-0896 to connect to resources. AT&T retail employees are also working to collect and distribute hygiene kits to local shelters and phones for local residents who have been displaced by the flooding.

“As our teams work alongside their neighbors in Eastern Kentucky to restore their communities, we are proud to support the Team Eastern Kentucky Flood Relief Fund and Volunteers of America to help our friends and families as they get back on their feet following last week’s flash flooding,” said Carlos E. Sanchez, President, AT&T Kentucky. “We are committed to doing what we can to help Kentuckians recover from this disaster, including helping them stay in touch with loved ones when they need to most.”

Our first priority is keeping our customers connected. We know how critical communications are and our network continues to perform well. We are engaged with key officials working on restoration efforts, including local, state and federal officials. Our teams are prepared to deploy additional network recovery assets and equipment if needed.

Additionally, the AT&T Network Disaster Recovery team, in partnership with the FirstNet Response Operations Group, is in the field working closely with first responders and local leaders in impacted communities to deploy assets as needed to help maintain continued connectivity.

As severe weather and flooding continue in our region, the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky is monitoring the situation closely to determine the best way to respond immediately and in the long term.
